This trip will take you to discover some spectacular sites of the Sacred Valley of Cusco. The optimal climate and geography of this valley made it an important centre of agriculture as well as a strategic place to build temples, fortresses and magnificent agricultural terraces. Today, the valley is home of many indigenous communities who continue to preserve their traditions and are proud to share their land and their culture with us.
Moray, Peru.
The first stop of the day is to the enigmatic circular terraces of Moray Peru. According to experts, the terraces were used by the Incas as a research centre to acclimatize plants from the tropical Andean regions and to perform experiments to optimize crop yields. The site is very unique and it is easy to walk around and appreciate its landscape and soak up the energy of the place.
Misminay weavers & traditional lunch.
Next, you will visit Misminay, home of many weaver women who pass their ancient weaving tradition from generation to generation. We will participate in a weaving demonstration where we will learn about their tools, techniques and the art of weaving from the weavers themselves. Here we will enjoy a delicious lunch that is prepared by one of the local families of the community. The food is simple but delicious and it is made with local produce from Misminay!
NOTE: All activities and lunch in the community have to be paid directly to the local community directly.
Hike through the Maras Salt Ponds
After lunch, we will take you to the picturesque village of Maras. From the village you will hike down the valley to the famous salt ponds. You will have an hour to walk and explore the ~ 3,000 evaporations ponds that have been used to mine salt since the Inca period until today. Of course you will have the opportunity to buy some high quality mineral salt while we are here.
After the hike, we begin our return home.
